How many days do I need in Andalucia?
The first question you might have is how many days you will need for the road trip. Our opinion is that you will need two weeks in order to explore everything Andalucia has to offer but we understand that sometimes this is not an option. One of the best neighborhoods to stay in Seville is Santa Cruz, a historic and picturesque neighborhood in the heart of Seville, with narrow streets, charming plazas, and whitewashed houses. Another beautiful neighborhood is Triana which is located across the river from the city center. Triana is known for its flamenco culture, traditional ceramic workshops, and vibrant nightlife. It’s a good option if you want to experience a more local atmosphere. Other popular neighborhoods are also the Arenal, the Alameda, and the Macarena neighborhoods.

Iznájar
Iznajar is a charming town located in the province of Cordoba, Andalusia, with a rich history dating back to the Roman era. Iznajar is a 1 hour and 20 minutes drive from Cordoba and 1 hour and minutes from Granada. You can also pass by when you are driving from Cordoba to Granada.
One of the main attractions in Iznajar is the 8th-century Iznajar Castle, which offers stunning views of the town and the surrounding countryside. Our favorite spot in the village is the Patio de las Comedias. Visiting this patio is one of the best things to do in Iznájar, and is definitely one of the must-visit hidden gems in Spain. Nearby, the Embalse de Iznajar reservoir provides the perfect setting for water activities such as swimming, kayaking, and fishing. For those who prefer to stay on land, the Sierra de Loja mountains offer excellent hiking trails. You can also take a wine-tasting tour of the local vineyards and savor some of the region’s finest wines.
Nerja
It's beach time!
Nerja is a charming coastal town located on the Costa del Sol in southern Spanish. Nerja is an hour’s drive from Granada and about 50 minutes from Malaga. Nerja is a popular destination, especially in the summer months, because there are beautiful beaches and natural landscapes. From exploring the town’s historic sites and cultural attractions to relaxing on the beach and trying the local cuisine, there is something for you in Nerja.

- Frigiliana: Just a few kilometers north of Nerja is Frigiliana, a beautiful white-washed village perched on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Stroll along the cobblestone streets, take in the views, and explore the local shops and restaurants.

Malaga
Highlight: The Alcazaba
The next stop of the road trip is the beautiful coastal city of Malaga. Malaga is 50 minute drive from Nerja, and about an hour and a half from Granada. It offers a perfect blend of old-world charm and modern amenities with rich history, stunning architecture, and pristine beaches, Malaga is an ideal destination for you if you are looking for the sun. The highlights of Malaga are the iconic Alcazaba fortress and the vibrant Mercado Central. While you are there, try traditional tapas, stroll through historic streets, or simply relax on the beach.

Day trips from Malaga
Our favorite: Caminito del Rey
The “Caminito del Rey” (literally “the King’s Little Pathway”) is one of Spain’s most famous walks and is regarded as one of the best things to do while in Andalucia (if you are not afraid of heights, of course:) ). The Caminito del Rey hike is a 7.7 km (4.8 miles) trail that takes you along the Gaitanes Gorge, crossing over bridges and walkways that are built into the side of the cliff. While you are walking on the trail you will be able to enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains and the El Chorro reservoir below.
We recommend you visit Caminito del Rey since it is a unique experience that you will remember for many years. Caminito del Rey is accessible from Malaga by car, train, and bus. The drive from Malaga is about an hour.
Colomares, Mijas & Marbella
Colomares is a small town known for its beautiful castle, which was built in the late 20th century as a tribute to the famous explorer Christopher Columbus. The castle is a unique blend of different architectural styles, and it is known for its stunning details and intricate designs. The castle’s interior is decorated with beautiful frescoes, and it houses a museum that showcases the history of Christopher Columbus. While you are there you can also visit the Botanical Garden which is located near Colomares Castle, and the Chapel of Peace, a small chapel located in the garden of Colomares Castle. The town is located approximately 25 minutes from Malaga, and there is ample parking available near the castle.
Mijas is a charming village located in the hills of the Costa del Sol, just a short drive from Marbella. The Mijas Pueblo, or historic town center, is a must-visit and there you’ll find traditional whitewashed buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, and picturesque plazas. Make sure to visit the Church of the Immaculate Conception and the Hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña. The Mijas Bullring is another popular attraction. Additionally, the Mijas Water Park is a great option for families and anyone looking to cool off on a hot summer day.
Marbella is a stunning coastal town known for its beautiful beaches, luxurious resorts, stylish boutiques, and vibrant nightlife. If you decide to visit Marbella, you must definitely take a stroll through the charming Old Town and marvel at the beautiful architecture, cobbled streets, and white-washed buildings. Don’t miss Orange Square, which is the heart of the Old Town, surrounded by outdoor cafes and historical landmarks. In addition, you can visit Puerto Banus, and Marbella Promenade and of course, relax on the Beaches, make water sports, and enjoy the vibrant nightlife. Marbella is one hour drive from Malaga.
Ronda
Highlight: Puente Nuevo - The iconic bridge
Nestled in the heart of the Andalusian mountains, Ronda is a city that has breathtaking views and historic landmarks. This charming city is one of the oldest in Spain and has a history that dates back to the Neolithic era with its cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings, and stunning landscapes. The city has a population of around 35,000 people and it is about 1 a half hours drive from Malaga.

Here is a list of the best things to do that will help you plan your visit to Ronda:
- Puente Nuevo: This iconic bridge is Ronda’s most famous landmark and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside.
- Explore the historic city center: Take a stroll through Ronda’s cobbled streets and admire the city’s architecture, visit its many museums and galleries, and try some of the local food at one of the many restaurants and cafes.
- Plaza de Toros: Ronda’s bullring is one of the oldest in Spain and is a testament to the country’s bullfighting heritage.
- Palacio de Mondragon: This historic palace was once the residence of the Moorish king Abomelic, and today houses the Ronda Museum.
- Alameda del Tajo: This beautiful park is an excellent spot for a picnic or a stroll.

Setenil de las Bodegas
Setenil de las Bodegas is a picturesque village located in the province of Cadiz. It is 20 minute’s drive from Ronda and has a population of around 3,000 people. What makes this village unique is its setting, with many of its houses and buildings built directly into the cliffs and rock formations that surround it. The village is known for its stunning views and beautiful natural landscapes, as well as its traditional Spanish cuisine, including tapas, chorizo, and local wines.
Some of the highlights in stencil de las Bodegas are the Castle of Setenil, the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation, and the Cueva del Sol.
Olvera
Another small village near Ronda is Olvera which is around 45 minutes from Ronda by car. You can visit both Setenil de las Bodegas and Olvera in a single day. Olvera sits atop a rocky hill overlooking the valley and is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, including the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. The highlights of Olvera are its castle and the church, as well as charming streets lined with white-washed houses. The Olvera Castle is a 12th-century castle that sits on top of a hill and provides stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The Iglesia Parroquial Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion church is located in the heart of Olvera’s historic center and is known for its stunning architecture and intricate details.
Once you are there, the best way to explore the town is on foot. The town is relatively small, and most of the main attractions are located in the historic center, which can be easily walked in a day.
Cadiz
The last stop of our roadtrip
The last stop of our road trip is the beautiful city of Cadiz, a beautiful coastal city founded by the Phoenicians in 1100 BC. Cadiz is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe, and it has a rich cultural heritage. With its stunning beaches, beautiful architecture, and lively streets, Cadiz is a popular destination for travelers from around the world. The city has a population of approximately 120,000 people and it is easily accessible by car from Ronda in about 1 hour and 45 minutes.

There are a lot of things to do in Casiz but here is a small list of the best things to do while you are there:
- Cathedral of Cadiz: a beautiful baroque-style cathedral was built in the 18th century and it’s one of the most important landmarks in the city.
- Torre Tavira: This 18th-century watchtower is one of the highest points in Cadiz and offers breathtaking views of the city and the coastline.
- Castle of San Sebastian: Built in the 18th century, this castle is situated on a small island just off the coast of Cadiz and is accessible via a causeway. The castle is now a museum, and visitors can explore the historical artifacts and exhibits.
- Playa de la Caleta: This beautiful beach is situated in the heart of Cadiz and is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and people-watching. With its calm waters and picturesque surroundings, it’s the perfect place to relax and soak up the Mediterranean sun.

Cadiz is a relatively small city with many charming neighborhoods that are great for tourists. One of the best is the La Viña neighborhood which is located near the beach and is known for its narrow streets and charming houses. El Populo is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Cadiz and is located in the heart of the city’s historic center. It’s a great place to stay if you want to be close to the main sights, such as the Cathedral and the Plaza de España. If you want something quieter, then Santa Maria is the right neighborhood for you. Finally, the La Caleta neighborhood is located near the beach and is a great place to stay if you want to be close to the water and the city’s best seafood restaurants.

The best time to visit Casiz is during the summer if you want to enjoy the sun and the beaches. Spring (April to June) or fall (September to November) is also nice because temperatures are mild and the crowds are smaller.
