It hosts the Ravello Festival from late spring to autumn and attracts many music lovers. Placed in the Lattari mountains above Amalfi, it offers a great view of the coast and the Tyrrhenian Sea. We visited Ravello as part of our one-week road trip on the Amalfi Coast and we fell in love with its beauty. Let’s explore together the best things to do in Ravello.
How to Get To Ravello
Ravello by Bus
Ravello is easily accessible by any means. You can use the SITA buses that cross all the towns of the Amalfi Coast. The SITA bus service connects Ravello with Amalfi in a route that lasts about 30 minutes, and it’s quite entertaining when you can admire the view and the surroundings.
Ravello by Car
Alternatively, you can cross Statale 163, the main coastal road, that begins in Vietri sul Mare and reaches Ravello by car. This is a more convenient way of transportation since you can reach the town at your own pace. The route lasts approximately 24 minutes but might vary depending on the season and traffic. Additionally, note that the road to Ravello is narrow as well and the parking in the town is limited.
Ravello by Ferry
Another, more entertaining way to get to the town is by ferry to reach Amalfi or Minori which are close to Ravello. The hours to get to town depend on the starting point. This route offers a great landscape and a quick view of the nearby towns. Once you reach each port, Amalfi is only 7 km away from Ravello while Minori is 8 km away. From both, you can take a bus or a taxi to get to your destination.

Where to park in Ravello
Parking in Ravello might be a bit challenging since it is a small town, but also since it has mostly a pedestrian-friendly character. However, there are still some places to park your vehicle.
A top-rated parking lot is the Cathedral Square Parking, which is located near the center of the town and you can have easy access to the attractions. It is also quite affordable with the price to be 2.50 euros per hour. Via della Repubblica Parking is an equally well-preserved parking lot where you can place your vehicle for 2 euros per hour. It is a spacious area with about 80 available parking spots.
Besides these options, you should consider that especially in the center of the town, there are many pedestrian-only zones which means that parking there will end up with the cost of a fine.
Things to Do in Ravello
Villa Rufolo
Villa Rufolo is a historic area that many visit to admire its stunning gardens and architecture. It was built in the 18th century by a wealthy family called Rufolo to showcase its wealth and status. Furthermore, it operated as their residence and as a gathering place for important figures of that time such as popes, royals, and even the King Robert of Anjou. In 1880, Richard Wagner visited the villa and was so amazed by its beauty that decided to make the gardens, the setting of his opera Parsifal. This fact connected Ravello with music and since then, the Ravello festival has taken place every year in town, being a part of the town’s heritage.
The villa has a mix of styles such as Arab-Norman, and Romanesque as well as elements of Romanticism. Besides that, the Villa Rufolo also has a cloister that makes it a serene place. Another point of interest is Torre Maggiore which houses the Vertical Museum of Villa Rufolo and serves as a great viewpoint for visitors to take some photos. Villa Cimbrone

Duomo di Ravello
Duomo di Ravello (Cathedral of Ravello) is one of the most famous monuments in the town. It was built in 1068 by the Rufolo family, to honor St. Pantaleone a Christian martyr and physician, that is celebrated annually every July 27.
It has a combination of Baroque and Romanesque style architecture. On the exterior, you can notice that its walls are thick, and the windows are small showing its defensive style. Its bronze door and the Bell tower have some Byzantine details. The chapel contains a small ampule of St. Pantaleone’s blood and his relics. Besides St. Pantaleone, the church is also dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta.
Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium
The Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium is located in a place founded in 2010 by an architect called Oscar Niemeyer. It was primarily designed to serve as a shelter for various cultural events that were taking place in town, therefore the musical season expanded further than the summer months.
Today the Ravello festival is hosted there and many concerts, performances, and other events. Its architecture is characterized by a unique, modern design. It has three entrances, with the main one to be wider than the other two on the sides. Next to the church, there is a bell tower with small windows on every side.
