Maiori and Minori are two small, charming towns on the Amalfi Coast, only 2 km away. We visited both towns during our one-week road trip on the Amalfi Coast. There are alot of things to do in Minori and Maiori besides their size. Maiori has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997 because of its natural beauty and the historical sites that must be protected. Minori is also known as the town of taste due to its pasta and pastry production, amongst the highlights you will encounter lemon groves, flowers, and villas. How to Get To Minori and Maiori

You can reach both towns from Naples in various ways based on your budget, preferences, and mood.

Minori/Maiori by Plane

The closest airport to the towns is the airport of Naples. you can choose between a bus, train, ferry, or a private transfer to reach Maiori and Minori.

Minori/Maiori by Ferry

The quickest way to reach these towns is by ferry, which lasts about half an hour and costs approximately 20 euros, while it provides you with the stunning scenery of the Amalfi Coast.

Minori/Maiori by Car

Alternatively, another quick way could be by driving or taking a taxi that gets you straight to these towns and lasts an hour, yet the price is higher.

Minori/Maiori by Bus

A route with the bus starting from Napoli – Capodichino Airport is also a convenient way to get you direct to Maiori and Minori, lasts approximately 1.5 hours, and is very affordable while you can also enjoy the view of the surroundings.

A way that lasts longer because you will have to change means of transportation along the way is getting there by train. The route starts from Napoli Centrale to Salerno and from there you must take a bus to reach Maiori and Minori. The total distance lasts a little more than 2 hours.

Where to park in Minori and Maiori

Maiori and Minori are very challenging when it comes to parking due to their small size and the limited parking spots. Some areas inside the towns are marked with white color meaning that they are available for each town’s residents while spots marked with blue color are for visitors with a charge of 3 euros per hour.

Besides that, each town has parking lots that allow you to leave your vehicle. In Maiori, you will find La Grotta Car Park, located in an ideal area that allows you to explore both towns, and the Garage Mandara which is located near the center of Maiori.

In Minori, you will find the Della Mura Car Park, but you can also search for parking spots in Via Nazionale and Largo Tommaso Brandolini which both have a variety of free spots for cars and Vespa.

If you are considering visiting the towns during the summer when the area is more crowded, keep in mind to arrive early in the morning to find a parking spot.

One of the best activities you can do in Minori to explore it is to wander into the town’s alleys and admire the monuments and shops. The center of the town hosts a variety of historical sites, local shops, and cafeterias where you can relax and feel the traditional vibe more deeply. Do not hesitate to walk amongst the traditional houses, grab a gelato and why not communicate with the friendly locals. 

Visit the Basilica of Saint Trofimena

The Basilica of Saint Trofimena is located in the town of Minori. It was built around 640 AD as a place for the relics of Saint Trofimena to be placed. This Saint was a woman who denied marrying a nobleman and was killed by her father. Her body was thrown into the sea and her relics were washed into the shore of Minori. She is celebrated three times a year by the residents of the town. The church has neoclassical elements and notable artworks such as the Crucifixion altarpiece by Marco del Pino da Siena. It is open daily for the public to admire its beautiful architecture and even visit the crypt where her relics are located. 

Discover the Roman Villa and Antiquarium

In the heart of Minori, you will find the Roman Villa and Antiquarium. They are two amazing structures if you are interested in ancient history. The villa used to be the residence of a rich Roman family and was constructed in 1932. It has amazing wall paintings and a stunning garden. In the Antiquarium located nearby, you will encounter a variety of artifacts and findings from the villa that provide historical information about this monument. You can explore this place every day except Monday, from 9 am to 7 am, while it requires no ticket to visit. 

Enjoy Minori Beach and beach clubs

The Minori beach is a beautiful destination and provides stunning scenery with a quiet atmosphere and less crowd. The beach has a variety of amenities and beach clubs that provide you with relaxation, despite its tranquil atmosphere. You can either relax in the umbrellas and sunbeds of the beach clubs or in the free space that is nearby. Amongst the activities, visitors and locals can swim in the clear waters, relax, and explore the sea while its sandy land is suitable for families as well. If you love cooking, a great choice could be to attend a cooking class in Minori. A recommended place is the Sotto i Limoni which is in the town of Minori. In this course, you will learn how to shape this kind of pasta, prepare other Italian dishes, and do wine tasting while communicating with other participants. Of course, all the above take place amongst lemon groves with a stunning background of the Amalfi Coast. 

Walk the Path of Lemons

The Path of Lemons is a nice route that connects Maiori with Minori and offers great scenery and views. It is about 4 km long and takes one hour to be completed based on the pace. It is generally considered an easy path with some challenging spots while it includes 400 steps in total, thus it is not accessible by a wheelchair. It was primarily used as a trading route amongst the lemon growers and the nearby ports, while today along the way you will meet a variety of lemon groves and the view of the Mediterranean Sea. About in the middle of the path you will meet the Torre Village which is a small community where you can make a stop, relax, and take some amazing photos of the Amalfi Coast and the surroundings. 

Rent a boat for a day on the sea

Taking a boat tour along the Amalfi Coast from the port of Maiori or Minori is a great way to experience the breathtaking view and other coastal towns. You can choose between a private tour or a group one based on your preferences and budget.

Some top-rated companies offer group and private tours. During your trip, they make stops for swimming and snorkeling. Some of the companies in the area, also make stops in the nearby towns, allowing you to explore them and maybe have a traditional dinner. Boat tours reach towns like Amalfi, Positano as well as Ravello and Capri amongst others. Its facade is characterized by Romanesque and Baroque elements. On the outside, you will find a dome containing yellow and green majolica tiles and an 18th-century bell tower. On the interior, the church includes a marble altar several side chapels, and the famous statue of Mary.

Besides that, you will also find the Don Clemente Confalone Museum which has a variety of religious artifacts and other works of art. The church is open daily for the public. 

Explore Castello di Toro Plano in Maiori

The Castle of San Nicola de Thoro Plano is a fortress that played a vital role in the town during medieval times. It used to have 9 towers, serving as defense and protection against the Saracens, but today some of them have been lost. The fortress features a defensive style with thick walls and small windows, while its location is ideal for protecting the city during the old times.

The fortress offers a panoramic view of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the surrounding hills, making it a notable place for taking photos. The ticket price to enter the fortress is 5 euros with a guided tour included.

For this reason, it is popular for every kind of tourist, from families to solo travelers. The Minori Thursday Market happens once a week, every Thursday also, and has a variety of products such as cheeses, and other specialty foods from the Amalfi Coast.

Being an old fortress, its location only promises you that the view from up there will be breathtaking.

Minori also provides its visitors with a variety of spots, such as the town’s main beach, especially during the golden hour. The Church of Santa Trofimena, located at the top of a hill, is a must-visit in the town of Minori and has a stunning view. 

How to Get Around Minori and Maiori

Maiori and Minori are small towns thus you can wander in them on foot, admire their architecture and sites as well as feel their traditional vibe. Another way that allows you to admire the surroundings is with SITA buses that connect all the towns around the Amalfi Coast. The route between Maiori and Minori takes 15 minutes.

The coastal towns having ports provide ferries by many companies that ensure an entertaining route and a view of the nearby towns. Ferries are quicker and more fun. Between Maiori and Minori, the ferry takes from 5 to 10 minutes and the ticket’s price is 3 euros.

If you want to explore the towns at their own pace a great option could be a scooter and bike rental. You can rent a scooter or bike from a local company. The price might be a bit higher but worth it.

Ravello

Ravello is a small town about 2 km away from Minori that can be reached on foot in approximately 2 hours. In Ravello, you will find many things to do and see, and have a great day trip. You can wander in the narrow streets of the historic town and admire the monuments, as well as buy souvenirs and local products.

Spend a part of the day visiting villas Rufolo and Cimbrone, both including gardens, rich with blooming flowers and a great view of the Amalfi Coast. Do not miss the Duomo di Ravello, a real piece of art for the town. You can spend the rest of the day relaxing on Castiglione Beach, the main beach of Ravello, or if preferring mountain activities you can go hiking. 

Positano

Positano, Amalfi Coast

Positano is also a great destination located about 16 km away from Maiori and can be reached by bus, car, or ferry. In this town, you will meet many sights such as the church of Santa Maria Assunta, an iconic dome with colorful wall paintings on the inside as well as the Villa Rosa offering a stunning view of the coast. A must-visit is the variety of beaches in the area that differ from crowded to more isolated ones.

Amalfi

Amalfi is located about 4 km away from Maiori and a little further from Minori. It can be reached by a ferry, a SITA bus, or a private transfer. In Amalfi, there are many fun things to do. Begin your day with a coffee at the historic center of the town to soak up the atmosphere and relax. You can spend some hours of your day to go sightseeing.

The top highlights of Amalfi are the Duomo di Sant’Andrea, the Paper Museum, and Villa Cimbrone. Dedicate the rest of the morning to relax at one of the Amalfi beaches, maybe Marina Grande, which is the closest to the center and has plenty of space. End your day at a park or a terrace admiring the sunset.

Maiori and Minori cuisine reflects the area’s tradition and richness, containing a variety of dishes with fresh ingredients such as pasta and other iconic Italian plates. Besides that, you will find a variety of lemon-based dishes due to the popular Sfusato Amalfitano lemon produced in the area.  
 

La Pineta

La Pineta is amongst the best restaurants in Maiori known for its fish dishes and other delicious plates. Amongst them, a notable one is the O’Genovese while you will also enjoy the restaurant’s scenery which features lemon trees and outdoor tables. Besides that, La Pineta also has a pasta-making factory that ensures that the pasta is freshly made.  

Ristorante Nettuno

Ristorante Nettuno is another excellent choice placed in Maiori. It is known for its fresh delicious fish with a signature plate to be the grilled fish. The atmosphere is warm, and the staff is very friendly and ready to serve you.

Bar Europa is also known as Bar Gelateria Europa and is placed in Minori. Having a more casual character, the Bar Europa serves cafe, gelato, and breakfast in a cozy atmosphere.

Casa Amorino in Minori for example is a property near the sea and the center of the town about 500 meters away. The sea is warm allowing you to try water sports and the weather is also convenient for hiking. Keep in mind that in some cases the weather gets unpredictable, and you might face occasional rains or even storms while some local shops might not be open yet.

Note to take breathable fabrics like cotton and linen especially if visiting during the summer months but also take along a light jacket or sweater for the cool nights and if you aim to visit some churches that require modest dressing.

As already said, these towns are close to each other and provide you with activities such as hiking, thus you will need comfortable shoes for exploring the towns and for the activities.

If visiting in summer it is advisable to bring along swimwear as well as a beach towel and a beach bag. Note to equip yourself with a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle for the warm days to protect yourself from the sun. Lastly, do not forget to take along your camera, chargers, and adapters to capture every beautiful moment in your trip.
