How to get there

The only way to get to Gozo is by boat because there’s no road connection to Malta with Gozo. There are three ways to get to Gozo from Malta. All three ways will get you to the Mġarr Harbour on the southeastern side of Gozo.

1. Public Transport & Ferry

Best budget Option

The ferry departs from Marr Harbour and Ċirkewwa (the northern port in Malta),  as well as Marfa Bay (on Gozo).  Ċirkewwa is serviced by a number of bus routes and is easy to reach from major tourist hotspots. The main port in Gozo (Marr Harbour) is reached after a brief (15-minute) ferry ride.

Additionally, travelers on the Gozo Ferry can just show up at the port; trips leave every thirty minutes or so. On the way back to Malta, you’ll pay for your return boat ticket, which is about €20 for a car and two passengers.

2. By private boat

Best for more privacy

If you prefer a more exclusive experience, you can rent a private boat and enjoy a personalized tour of the island. This is, in our opinion, the best way to enjoy Gozo Island because you’ll probably go to more remote locations and see a little more than what the larger group tours can provide.

3. Day Trip: Boat Tours from Malta

The easiest

You can book a day trip to Gozo from Malta from the several tour operators that provide the services on the island. Some of those options include:

  • Organized Tour: You can sign up for an organized tour that takes you to the island’s most well-known attractions for a more structured experience. These excursions frequently stop at Victoria’s Citadel, the Azure Window, and the Inland Sea in addition to taking visitors to nearby towns and beaches.
  • Adventure Activities: Scuba diving, snorkeling, and rock climbing are just a few of the adventure activities available if you’re looking for a more active day trip. The island’s untamed coastline and secret caves can be seen on a boat tour around it.
  • Cultural Tours: If you’re curious about the fascinating history and cultural legacy of Gozo, think about going on a cultural tour. These excursions give you a thorough understanding of the intriguing history of Gozo while seeing the island’s museums, churches, and prehistoric monuments.
